Now this is FUN!!!

Creating not just a room or a hall, but a passageway  that becomes a room of its own…so creative, so visionary..so WOW!

Focal view—do you file this under DOORS, WINDOWS, HALLS?

It is the lining up of halls, walls, doors and windows, just right, to create a FOCAL VIEW.

To accentuate this more, add a 3 or 4 foot wide runner…60 feet long if you can.

People love this, because it is not a door or wall or window or house, but all the above. That is the magic of it….there is no word for “focal view” in a normal persons vocabulary…..just a WOW, isn’t THAT pretty.

The viewer “accidently” spots this view, an active participate…. there is no spotlight on it… it just is.

If you can ever incorporate such a view … do it.  You might have to move a few door to the right or left a few inches for the long view to “show up” but if done well, it works.

I used to walk by a house in Edgartown.. the front door was left open, to see out the back yard, to the ocean beyond….ENVY!!!

A whole book created, and used a focal view at the cover shot….shows how important it can be in a great design.

PLANNING A FOCAL VIEW

I have a tight, complicated floorplan.  But, I was able to line up my doors to create a 65 foot path….a focal view from front to back.
