Stairs as a trip hazard

New construction, Ask $6M, got $5.3M

Great entrance, your eyes float all around at the glory, then you trip over the stairs sticking out after you put your purse on the table.

But there is more…

These stairs are both STEEP and LONG… with 12 foot ceilings… dare you carry an infant, or books, or coffee up there?

It is really hard to FIT stairs into limited space…

Sometimes they just stick out in ways you could have seen in 3D if you looked.  Increase the height, or lengthen the step, and a tiny change makes the stairs stick out.

Here the stairs are a steep and shallow as possible… and they still stick put. GO FISH, redesign the house/stairs. C- job.

But there is more.

The stairs are in the center of the house…

WITH a full room balcony… now heat and AC is not controlled….

” it’s too hot up here…it’s too cold down here…”

can you turn down the TV the baby is sleeping up here….

Did you close the baby gate?

Just a lot of overhead!! When you could have moved the stairs to the side of the house, added an elevator (12-foot ceilings…3 floors) (at $5M!) and used this prime central space, for an extra room or two.

Anyone can walk the stairs… of course…but most of the time you are walking and carrying something…spill, drop, fall… it just gets old.

The house is otherwise lavish and spoiled… add an elevator!)

Plus… think of how hard it was to get all that furniture up the 12-foot stairs, without banging the walls…
